I went to a lecture last night titled “Religion and the Founders: The First Great Battle over Church and State”. This quote by Jefferson was on my mind for today as a result. Do believe what he said is true? What belief of your neighbor would do you harm?

“It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are 20 gods or no god.”
Thomas Jefferson
Jefferson was actually just a Deist. He was pretty much thought of as a infidel swine by many. They thought the apocalypse would arrive if he won the election of 1800 (which he did). Unitarians at that time were actually in the conservative, ‘divine order’ camp, wanting to maintain the position of authority and power they had in New England. It was, of all groups, the Baptists who were the radicals. They wanted a bill of rights, and a guarantee of separation of church and state. Why? Because they were a castigated minority religion at the time.
sounds like jefferson was a unitarian. i like darwin’s God.
