It’s ‘Dogs and Cats’ Week at the NDD!
When I would come home to visit my parents from college or from whatever far off place I happened to be living my mother would go crazy wild with joy to see me. She would cry, she would hug, she would be loud and happy. That’s how dogs are.
I once went back to visit my home town of San Diego. While I was there I went to visit a family friend I had not seen in probably 20 years. His greeting to me was a mild handshake and a ‘hey, how are ya?’ as if he had seen me the day before. That’s how cats are.
Drawing and reminiscence by Marty Coleman, a dog for sure.
Quote by Dereke Bruce, maybe a chef, maybe a former vet, I am not sure.
I could picture your Mom being like that – happy and crying and loud! A great greeting! My Dad being from Texas was kind of like that! They would say “in the South, people cry when you get there and they cry when you leave!”
Now, my cat Pierce who is 14, talks like crazy when I get home from being away for awhile and always greets me with a meow when I have just been gone an afternoon! I have always said he thinks he is a dog by the way he behaves. He will even walk with me at night on my walk. If you want a cat that thinks he is a dog, get a Maine Coon!! Never went with a pure breed before, all our cats and dogs growing up were strays. But, Pierce cost a little money (he was alive and needed a home, too!) and he was worth every red cent! I saw a little verse once that said “Your heart has not completely loved until it has loved an animal”
Thank you once again, Marty, for getting to us to think of other things. Especially things that make our hearts sing!
Your buddy, Connie
Haha. I love them both but I prefer cats. Love their personality!
